PHOTO DIARY: AUVERS-SUR-OISE

Auvers-sur-Oise is a small commune on the outskirts of Paris, which makes for a very accessible day trip by train. If you need a break from the long lines at the Louvre or the throngs of people shopping in the Marais, you will be very pleased to know that even on a weekend, Auvers-sur-Oise is not overrun with people.

However, you will indeed find some art lovers, as this village is famous for being the final home and resting place of Vincent van Gogh. While he was only in Auvers-sur-Oise for 70 days, he created more than 80 paintings and 60 drawings, including The Church at Auvers. (You can see a photo I took of the church down below!) Vincent van Gogh was not the only artist associated with Auvers-sur-Oise. Other notable artists who lived and were inspired by the area include Paul Cézanne and Camille Pissarro. This means that if you love impressionists, Auvers-sur-Oise is also for you!

Please enjoy these photos from my time in this little artist haven!
